Flincth Speed Reader reads your own books and documents one word, phrase or short sentence at a time, in one fixed spot. This guide takes a file from your iPhone or iPad to your first page.
What it can open
- EPUB 2 and 3, without DRM. The book’s table of contents becomes its sections.
- PDF with a text layer: text you could select and copy in another app.
- DOCX (Word). Heading styles become sections.
- TXT, RTF and Markdown.
- HTML files saved on your device, such as a web page you downloaded. (Links to web pages aren’t loaded; see Quick Read.)
It cannot open DRM-protected books, such as Kindle or Apple Books purchases, scanned PDFs without a text layer, or old .doc Word files. When a document won’t open explains each message and what to do.
1. Add the file
Pick whichever is closest to where the file is:
- From Files. In the library, tap Add (the plus button) and choose Add File…. Pick one file, or select several at once. On an empty library, tap Add File in the middle of the screen.
- From another app. In Mail, Files, a browser’s downloads or a cloud drive, tap the share button on a supported file and choose Flincth.
- By drag and drop on iPad. Drag a file from Files or another app onto the library.
Flincth copies the file into the app, so the document keeps opening even if you later move or delete the original. A large book can take a moment to prepare.
2. Open it and press play
Tap the document in the library. The reader opens at the start, or where you stopped last time, a few words back so you can pick up the thread.
Tap anywhere to start. Tap again to pause: the whole paragraph appears, with the current words marked. Tap any sentence to carry on from there.
3. Choose a mode and a speed
At the bottom of the reader:
- Word, Phrase or Sentence sets how much text appears at once. Word, phrase or sentence helps you choose.
- The Slower and Faster buttons change the speed by 25 words per minute. You can also swipe up or down while reading.
Not sure where to start? We wrote up what speed to use in a speed reading app.
Moving around a book
- Tap the Contents button (the list icon) at the top to jump to any chapter or section.
- Swipe left to go back one sentence, right to go forward one.
- The thin bar at the bottom shows how far you are, with the time left in the section.
Your library
Each document shows its progress. Press and hold a document, or swipe it, to Rename, Reset Progress or Delete it. Deleting removes it from Flincth only; the original file stays where it was.
The free plan keeps a small number of documents in the library, shown at the top of the list; Pro has no limit. Settings → Plan shows every free limit and how much of it you have used today.
