How to Continue Reading on iPhone and iPad with iCloud Sync

Stop on your iPhone and pick up on your iPad at the same word. How Flincth Speed Reader's iCloud Sync works, what it syncs and how to fix it.

With Pro (or during the Pro trial), Flincth Speed Reader keeps your iPhone and iPad in step through your own iCloud. There is no Flincth account and no sign-in.

Turn it on

  1. Make sure both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account, with iCloud on.
  2. Open Settings in the app and find Sync.
  3. Turn on iCloud Sync. It is on by default for Pro and the trial when iCloud is available.

Your existing library uploads when you turn it on. The line under the switch shows the state, such as Last synced · 2 minutes ago.

Pro follows your Apple Account, so on the second device you only need to install the app; tap Restore Purchases in Settings → Plan if Pro doesn’t show straight away.

What syncs

  Syncs
Library: titles, sections, date added Yes
The document files themselves Yes, up to 100 MB each
Reading position in each document Yes
Reader settings and Pro customizations Yes
Reading statistics Yes, added up across devices
Quick Reads No; save one to the library to sync it

Everything goes to your private iCloud database. Flincth never sees it.

Picking up on the other device

Open the document and it continues where you stopped, with a short note such as Continued from iPad · Chapter 3. If you went back on purpose on one device, the other respects that: the most recent position wins.

A document added on the other device may show Downloading from iCloud… for a moment; it opens as soon as the file arrives.

If it isn’t syncing

The message under the switch says what is wrong:

  • Sign in to iCloud in iOS Settings to continue reading on your other devices. The device isn’t signed in to iCloud.
  • iCloud is turned off for Flincth. In iOS Settings, tap your name → iCloud and turn it on for Flincth.
  • Your iCloud storage is full, so new documents aren’t syncing. Free up space or upgrade your iCloud storage.
  • This document is too large to sync. It stays on the device it was added on. Files over 100 MB stay where they were added and are marked in the library.

Turning it off

Turning off iCloud Sync keeps everything on this device. If the trial ends without a purchase, sync stops the same way; nothing on your devices is deleted.
